Deemed unbreakable, Duralex glass is signed by a giant of the French industry, since Saint-Gobain created it. Glass specialist, the company indeed manufactured windows for automobiles, and had developed an ultra resistant tempered glass that they decided to invest in the tableware market by depositing the Duralex brand on June 6, 1945. A name that comes from the Latin "Dura lex, sed lex" (the law is hard but it is the law) and which refers to its solidity.
The first copy left the factories of La Chapelle-Saint-Mesmin, in the Loiret, in 1946. It was then available in bowls, cups, salad bowls ... and went around the world. But if the "Gigogne" glass is a star, another model, more recent, has also succeeded. The "Picardie" goblet, which celebrates its 65th anniversary this year, with its narrower and bevelled shape, is just as famous if not more, since it made its debut at the MoMa store, the famous museum of modern art in New York City in 2017.
