In the heart of the Val d'Ultimo valley, where the mountains sculpt a haven of serenity, the Schwarzschmied Hotel stands out for its understated luxury and hospitality that embodies the contemporary art of living. More than just an alpine refuge, this iconic location boldly combines local tradition with avant-garde design, for an immersive experience where every detail counts.
In Lana, a small village nestled between orchards and mountains a few kilometers from Merano in South Tyrol, the Schwarzschmied Hotel offers a unique experience. Designed as a place to relax and refocus, the establishment combines minimalist design, holistic well-being, and immersion in nature.
Built in 1981, the hotel has been carefully redesigned to become an open, calm, and grounded living space. The original architecture has been modernized with a refined aesthetic, where wood, stone, and natural light take center stage. Larch, spruce, marble from Val Venosta, and porphyry from Val Sarentino: regional materials were chosen for their raw character and simplicity.
The common areas—reception, lounge, and Bistro Luce—function like a vast, open-plan living room, ideal for reading, conversation, or contemplation. Large bay windows erase the boundary between interior and exterior, providing visual continuity with the surrounding landscape.

The spacious and bright rooms are designed to offer discreet comfort. The style is understated and contemporary, with natural materials—wood, stone, and linen—creating a soothing atmosphere. Some rooms feature balconies with mountain or vineyard views, perfect for relaxing upon waking.

" When steam rises from the pool, when the veranda offers shade, when the yoga session ends, when the air shimmers, when the music fades, when the moonlight caresses the design and art, when your gaze is lost in the evening glow, then you know this is not a dream. This is Schwarzschmied. "

In terms of cuisine, the hotel focuses on the simplicity of quality produce. The menu evolves with the seasons, driven by local ingredients and a particular focus on vegetarian and vegan dishes. The plates are clear, easy to understand, and uncluttered: each element finds its place.
The connection to the land is also expressed in the hotel's biodynamic vineyard. The house wines, to be enjoyed on the terrace of La Fucina restaurant or at Bistro Luce, extend this direct and natural approach, without artifice.
Wellness
At Schwarzschmied, the spa embraces a holistic approach to care, where the essential takes precedence over the superfluous. Massages and beauty treatments are performed with natural products from Susanne Kaufmann, an eco-conscious Austrian brand renowned for its clean formulations and sleek design.
The wellness experience combines dry and humid heat with a hammam, a bio sauna, and a Finnish sauna set outdoors, overlooking the landscape. Each space is designed to promote circulation, grounding, and deep relaxation.
Outdoors, a swimming pool surrounded by a solarium with a pergola invites you to extend your break, reading, sunbathing, and overlooking the vineyards. Inside, a 10-meter pool extends the experience in a calm and luminous atmosphere.

An energy field for mind, body and soul.

In the hotel's interior garden, yoga takes on a sensitive and immersive dimension. Private instructors lead small-group sessions, where the practice is in tune with the rhythm of nature and sounds. Some classes take place to the deep sound of a cello, while others are accompanied by chanted mantras, for an experience that is both physical and meditative.
At the same time, "awakened awareness" sessions—combining hot tea, conversation, and moments of silence—invite you to slow down even further. Here, the body stretches, the mind calms, and the space becomes a place of inner reconnection.
