DOMAINE LAUDONIE

A few kilometers from the Lascaux caves, Belgian restorers have breathed new life into an age-old estate. Six years of colossal work were necessary to create this exceptional place with charm and authentic decoration. A place dedicated to comfort and calm where you can fully enjoy your holidays or celebrate an unforgettable ceremony.

Who could imagine that this remarkable place was once an austere farmhouse dating from the 15th century, with small openings and devoid of the towers and the inner courtyard? Today, after six years of transformation work, the Laudonie estate stands proudly on the crest of its hill and its 53-hectare park, while the ocher stones and terracotta of its buildings stand out distinctly against the blue sky.

A two-hour drive from Bordeaux, in the heart of historic Périgord, the Manoir and its outbuildings are open for rental and receptions. The guest house equipped with a swimming pool, a tennis court and a sauna offers a hotel service with a concierge service run by Marie and Ioan who are happy to welcome, advise and bring the hot croissants to guests in the morning...

Four buildings can be rented jointly or separately. Le Manoir, the main building of 600m2, ideally accommodates families or groups of friends of up to twelve people who benefit from a large, convivial kitchen and vast lounges opening onto the terraced garden overlooking the valley. An ideal view where to drink a coffee, laze or enjoy the sunset. The North, East and West Towers, which have a double bedroom each, are more suitable for couples. They are equipped with a kitchen, a living room with a fireplace and a private terrace. The South Tower, ideal for young people looking for autonomy, complements the other buildings. Finally, the Barn is dedicated to receptions and hosts private ceremonies, wellness retreats or seminars. It has a professional kitchen ideal for catering ceremonies.

All of the 900 square meters have been entirely designed and remodeled by the Belgian architect Stéphane Boens. All of the buildings have been completely stripped bare, leaving only the structural walls and chimneys exposed. The towers and the inner courtyard were created from scratch. The owners wanted to offer a very comfortable interior to their future guests, obliging these major architectural and interior reconfiguration works.

From floors to roofs, the new structure has been clad in noble and authentic materials. Fanny the owner and Stéphane Boens have called on resellers of old building materials such as Joris Van Apers in Antwerp or Marike Vandemoortel in Zarren: stones, floor tiles, fireplace mantels, railings or the outdoor fountain are all recycled materials from old buildings. The parquet floors have been recreated to ensure perfect sound insulation. The four kitchens and the bathrooms were made to measure by a renowned Belgian fitter and all the curtains were made by a local upholsterer.

"The estate is nestled on a ridge offering a breathtaking view of the surrounding valleys and hills."

Throughout the duration of the work, Fanny had the opportunity to scour all the antique dealers and second-hand goods dealers in the region, to hunt in Belgium or abroad during her travels. A treasure made up of furniture, lighting, decorative objects and paintings accumulated over the years, today furnishes all the buildings, distributed in each room according to the wise advice of Stéphane Boens. Laudonie also offers top-of-the-range equipment, linen customized with the effigy of the domain and sustainable care products from Ada Cosmetics. The entire decorative concept is deliberately bare, thus highlighting the quality of the work and respecting the relaxing atmosphere desired by its owners.

If Laudonie is an admirable place, it is the same for its environment. The house is ideally located in a very rich region. It is the starting point for many cultural excursions, walks or sports activities. Located in the heart of the Périgord Noir and its famous prehistoric sites, the Caves of Lascaux and the National Museum of Prehistory are only a few kilometers from the property. The region is also ideal for discovering exceptional villages and remarkable gardens, including the famous Jardins d'Eyrignac. Sports and nature lovers can indulge in golf or kayaking, while all seasons are conducive to beautiful hiking loops offering exceptional viewpoints.
