- LA MANUFACTURE ROYALE DE LECTOURE
The Manufacture Royale de Lectoure, a former 18th century tannery, has been superbly transformed into a place of accommodation and events. After thirty years of abandonment and three years of total restoration, the new guest house welcomes its guests in sober spaces with contemporary elegance. Its remarkable clock stands above the vegetation and tiled roofs of the steep village of Lectoure. It was during a hike in the Gers countryside, on the Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle trail, that Christèle Ageorges and her husband Hubert Delance fell in love with an old neoclassical building for sale. Despite its advanced state of disrepair and a considerable surface area, the couple decided to acquire this historic residence, the starting point for a new life. Three years of work will be needed to renovate the building. The owners want to infuse it with a stripped-down and refined atmosphere that echoes the history of the place. Christèle, interior stylist, opts for a refined decor with meticulous details, and highlights traditional craftsmanship and know-how. The waxed concrete floors and the walls stained with lime are available in soft colors, chalk, pink, cypress and dove, tones inspired by the immediate environment of La Manufacture, from the limestone and luminous stone of the old town to the sunsets. pink sun on the Pyrenean horizon. Since 2022, La Manufacture Royale de Lectoure has offered visitors a vast living space made up of reception rooms, five guest rooms and a gîte, while an entire wing of the residence is open for rent for groups or receptions. The volumes are spacious and furnished in a perfect balance of vintage pieces and contemporary creations: the blond shades of the Midi benches and armchairs harmonize perfectly with the Woood ceramic pedestal tables and the curves of the Osaka sofa by Pierre Paulin, while the hanging lamps Knit-Wit woven lamps and Grès lamps match the chandeliers with antique tassels. "A family walk on the way to Compostela in 2017 led us to Lectoure, this small town in the Gers that we did not yet know but which was going to house our new project, after 30 years of a Parisian life!" The owners wanted to create a gîte for hikers on their way to Santiago de Compostela, just as they had been taken to Lectoure a few years earlier. Four cells with several beds and a kitchen installed in the cellars of the Manufacture welcome pilgrims in a monastic and milky atmosphere. The residence revolves around an interior courtyard in the middle of which sits a bicentenary lime tree which shades holidaymakers and invites you to enjoy the sweetness of life. And to perfect the place, a swimming pool will soon come to refresh the hot summer days. Due to the tranquility and refinement it exudes, the Manufacture Royale de Lectoure attests that happiness is indeed in the Gers... - LES SOURCES DE CHEVERNY
Imagine a haven of greenery, refinement and serenity just two hours from Paris. After Les Sources de Caudalie, Alice and Jérôme Tourbier are renewing their concept of wine tourism with an enchanting estate in the heart of the Loire Valley, a hamlet that extends over 45 hectares between vineyards and forests and whose every plot amazes its visitors. Les Sources de Cheverny offer a bucolic parenthesis and hold the promise of an exquisite stay between well-being, gastronomy and nature walks. After crossing the woods of the park, Le Château de Breuil is revealed through the branches and tall flying grasses. A historic building that hides a whole set of small buildings subdivided in the middle of a landscaped garden. Grass-lined paths meander around the lake and lead visitors to their cabins, two restaurants, small farm or orchard. In the background, the forest and meadows as far as the eye can see surround the small hamlet and reinforce this feeling of disconnection. This marvelous ensemble with a refined and friendly atmosphere, just like its owners, makes up Les Sources de Cheverny. A peaceful place where there is an unparalleled sweetness of life and which is one of our favorite hotels! The architecture is signed Yves Collet in collaboration with the creative studio Saint-Lazare (formerly be-poles) and the complicity of Alice Tourbier who developed the interiors together. The decorative concept is a perfect blend of classicism and modernity, and elegance and simplicity define the spirit of the place down to the smallest detail, from the decorative elements to the menu. The historic buildings of the 18th century such as the winery, the castle or the old farmhouses cohabit harmoniously with the contemporary wooden constructions, while the old harwxood forest harmonizes with the recent low vegetation. Cultural heritage and traditions are respected and revisited in a modernist audacity, and the skilfully conducted contrast breathes new life into the French way of life. In the salons of the castle, stylish furniture and contemporary creations are impeccably balanced with wing chairs, a grand piano, stretched floral fabrics and chandeliers with tassels that match a Living Divani sofa, USM shelves and decorative objects ornaments from the mid-twentieth century. Le Hameau is more contemporary and fits in with the current decorative trend: the lobby revolves around a warm suspended stove surrounded by vintage leather Togo elements and Scandinavian armchairs, travertine coffee tables are enhanced with small bouquets of dried flowers, and a very pretty wool tapestry adorns the teal blue wall. And everywhere, books and games are available to guests to give the family and convivial character of a country house. The whole estate comes in a palette of calm, restful and woody colors tinged with blues, greens and browns reminiscent of the omnipresent nature. In total, forty-nine rooms and suites spread over six buildings occupy the estate. Le Chateau offers thirteen rooms with more classic decor and bucolic colors taken from the work of Claire Blaservous which adorns the entrance to the spa on the ground floor. The rooms in the sheds and outbuildings are directly inspired by the nature they border. There reigns a soft and cozy atmosphere declined in chalk hues, blond woods and warm fabrics. The bathrooms with contemporary lines offer all the desired comfort. « If there is one thing cherished and precious like no other at Sources de Cheverny, it is the shared moments. » In addition, to preserve the beauty of the surrounding nature and give meaning and coherence to their project, the hotel inscribes its actions in an ethical and respectful approach to life. The rooms offer spring water, pure, filtered, and served in a glass bottle. Shower treatments are offered in cornstarch plastic containers, which are fully recycled and recyclable. And the guests also participate in the protection of nature by traveling by bike on the estate or by limiting the frequency of changing their towel. Le Favori Another treasure of Les Sources de Cheverny is its starred restaurant Le Favori, run by its poetic chef Frédéric Calmels who draws his inspiration from the estate's forest and regional specialities. Comfortably installed in the large cozy room which offers a panoramic view of the estate's gardens, its flowery meadows and its natural ponds, you can savor delicious appetizers, a delicate fillet of pearly monkfish or the exquisite dessert with honey from the estate's hives, while enjoying the nectars recommended by the head sommelier. L'Auberge & le Bar à Vin Beneath its imposing wooden frame and stone walls, L'Auberge offers more traditional cuisine that revives forgotten treasures of family cooking. The conviviality of the place is reinforced by the large fireplace which crackles in front of the imposing tiled block while at the end of the room, at the Wine Bar, families and friends can discover the selection of Loire wines including La Grand'Vigne – the cuvée of the house whose vines are located on the estate. Spa by Caudalie A spa dedicated to nature whose interior is clad in solid wood from sustainable forests, and whose magnificent framework can be admired above the pool. The new face and body treatments from Caudalie offer the unequaled pleasure of wraps, massages and beauty rituals with grape seed extracts. The spa also offers yoga, sophrology and sylvotherapy sessions as well as a fitness room with WaterRower equipment, whose non-motorized machines are artisanal and ethically manufactured. Outside, a complete immersion in the greenery with the relaxing hot tub surrounded by oak wood like a barrel. Near Les Sources de Cheverny, visitors can take advantage of the cultural and natural activities offered by this region steeped in history: visits to the Loire castles, remarkable gardens, bike rides, golf, horse riding, visits to the cellars of La Sologne Viticole etc. so many rich and pleasant activities that will complete this bucolic parenthesis. - PAPOTTE
Papotte, is a new guest place which brings together in an old 15th century mill, four holiday homes and a coffee & shop set in the middle of the greenery. A refined and trendy space signed by the duo of architects Heju, where you can enjoy, one-on-one or with the tribe, the sweetness of life in Burgundy. Recently opened, Papotte offers four holiday homes and a café-grocery store designed and built with Hélène Pinaud and Julien Schwartzmann of Heju architecture studio, in charge of bringing life and meaning to this place steeped in history. The buildings are installed in an old 15th century mill established on a 2.5 hectare estate, through which the Ouche river meanders. The estate also offers guests the opportunity to indulge in the joys of fishing from a boat or from the banks of the pond, and to enjoy picking vegetables and herbs from the vast vegetable garden in preparation for the meal to come. This bucolic setting is in the heart of "Burgundy Switzerland", a few kilometers from Beaune and the mythical regional wine estates, between wooded hills and green meadows, conducive to disconnection and rejuvenation. The approximately 500 m2 of surface area of the premises are imprinted in a minimalist and impeccable architectural ensemble where curves and graphic lines, old materials and contemporary elements are delicately intertwined, and are fully equipped with the essential decorative references of the moment. In particular, the Burgundian neighbors La Lune or the highly publicized The Socialite Family participated in the decorative project, drawing from their own catalogs or by curating furniture and antique or handcrafted objects. While the entire project is based on a refined and luminous aesthetic charter, each house nevertheless has its own identity. Maison 2, a small islet perfect for romantic getaways, bordered by the river and with its small private beach, is Scandinavian-inspired, imagined as a Nordic fisherman's hut with stripped simplicity, is tinted with a palette of light colors and blond woods, and dressed in a vintage and artisanal selection sourced by La Lune. The house for 4 people, located in the former bread oven of the Moulin, is ideal for families. Two levels dressed in light wood and natural stones, colored in soft nude and powdery shades enhanced by touches of Burgundy. It offers a breathtaking view of the Ouche valley from its furnished terrace. " We were keen to work on the creation of a true poetic, singular and above all harmonious spirit to give meaning and life to this magnificent place steeped in history. " Opposite, in the left wing of the Moulin, the pontoon house of 110 m2 designed for 6 guests, displays a more contrasting decoration. The vast living space on the ground floor is covered in waxed concrete and walls decorated with an olive Velours Côtelé, the result of a collaboration between Heju and Ressource paints. Dark touches invite themselves into the decor via the kitchen elements or through the selections, such as the Roly Poly armchair which contrasts with the large flat white areas of the Menorcan-inspired honeycomb bookcase. Upstairs, the three bedrooms are felted terracotta cocoons as a reminder of the sun setting on the pond below. The large seven-bedroom family home, with a more classic composition and style with its Virginia creeper, crisp parquet and old cement tiles, immerses its guests in the colorful Italy of the 1950s, staged by The Socialite Family. A harmony of yellows, greens and blues on a latte background spreads over the three floors of the house, covered on the floors with cozy carpeting and white toupees for chilling in front of a movie in the cinema lounge. Outside, the huge private garden with its fountain and gazebo invites you to relax lulled by the chirping of birds in a truly magical atmosphere. Coffe & Shop To top it all off, the owners have provided a catering area run by a barista who concocts locavore breakfasts based on crispy toast, homemade jam and comforting and creamy drinks. This caffeinated setting also offers a liquid and spicy selection of carefully sourced products to enjoy an aperitif on the terrace or in your home. - CAMPTOWN
Camptown is the last gem of the Catskills. The hotel has just opened its doors after the complete renovation of a former Motel Lodge from the 1930s. There reigns a charming neo-country atmosphere, both rustic, cozy and at the forefront of the decorative style that puts the establishment in the hotel trend of the moment. Camptown is a hotel nestled at the foot of the Catskill Mountains about two and a half hours drive from New York, the most popular region of the American East Coast at the moment. The 1930s building was redesigned by the Ramshackle Studio of Ray Pirkle and Kim Bucci, who already owned the much-hyped Rivertown Lodge in Hudson. Camptown has undergone a thorough redesign where original architectural details match contemporary furnishing elements. The Hotel Located on a wide wooded park, Camptown consists of 50 unique and intimate accommodations perfectly thought out, divided into 24 hotel rooms and 26 self-contained log cabins. Inspired by the original charm of the property and the nature that surrounds it, the decorators have succeeded in achieving the subtle balance of traditional rustic architecture combined with contemporary and refined decoration. Exposed stonework, wide beams and paneling blend impeccably with modern furnishings, vintage selections and bespoke layout by local craftsmen. Shaker-inspired bedrooms feature handsome wood-panelled bed frames and quintessential patchwork bedspreads. The set comes in a palette of natural earth and ocher tones, ranging from cream to dark green. Conviviality and relaxation are essential in the establishment. Guests share the Pantry's pantry stocked with local produce to cook on site or in the adorable little kitchens in the cabins. Grills and picnic tables are also available, unless you prefer to savor moments of relaxation on the Penobscot Bay Porch Swings on the terrace. Also, guests and members of the Swim Club will be able to enjoy a swimming pool and its bar on sunny days, then a sauna, which is scheduled to open this fall. Casa Susanna The hotel's restaurant and bar - Casa Susana - offers a Mexican-inspired cuisine. Its chef, Efrén Hernández, offers a seasonal menu focused on fresh Hudson Valley produce and a natural wine cellar. On the menu, tamal pudding, grilled pork "al pastor" or sweetbreads roasted over a wood fire with garlicky black beans. The room is designed as a rustic "diner" all clad in wood, with long bay windows opening onto the forest, whose dark green Tea Pot pendant lights recall foliage, and tobacco-colored benches evoke humus. - JESSICA'S CASTLE
In 2017, a new multidisciplinary place was born in the middle of the Yonne countryside. After various professional and social experiences abroad, the brilliant and audacious Jessica Angel decided to set up her dream project in a castle that was yearning to find a buyer. She created Le Château du Feÿ there, an experiment, a utopia or...the societal model of tomorrow? Jessica had a plan in mind, to found an organized societal model that would respond to the essential issues of our time. Creating a unique multidisciplinary place, as close as possible to nature, a theater for community experiences...this is what inspired this native Parisian. It's done! Since 2017, the idea has taken shape despite the hazards of the economic situation. Installed in a 17th century castle in the heart of the Burgundy countryside, between Sens and Joigny in the Yonne, the Château du Feÿ welcomes residents, celebrates ceremonies, promotes the arts and safeguards heritage and living things. Through her various programs, Jessica shapes the principles of a modern Utopia invested in a historic building. Everything is linked: the past joins the future, city dwellers settle in the countryside, modernity is anchored in rurality, the local agrees with the global... Interview Jessica, can you tell us about your life until the opening of the Château du Feÿ? "I grew up in Paris, in an intellectual environment where culture and open-mindedness held a preponderant place. From the age of four, my parents sent me to summer camps or took me on trips with them. In 2008, I left to study architecture at EPFL in Lausanne, then I took a master's degree in Yale University. I did internships in Berlin and New York, and afterwards, I worked in San Francisco and Ivory Coast ... I have always been attracted by the concept of community life, specialization of my studies and subject of human experimentation; I lived, among other things, for a year at the Embassy Network in San Francisco, an intentional community that brings together 14 residents exploring co-creation, sharing, the common use of space and new ways of being in solidarity with each other. with the others...I wanted to import this model in France. " Why did you choose the Burgundy countryside as the location for your project? " Several factors led me to want to install a concept of community in the countryside. Being involved in certain activist causes, I thought about a solution that could respond to all the issues that were dear to my heart. First of all, I am very concerned about ecology and climate issues. Living closer to nature was therefore essential. Moreover, I firmly believe in the future of rurality which, given the difficulties of our time, will lead more and more people to go into exile, to return to live in the middle of nature. Moreover, following the rise of populism and the correlation between political choice and geolocation, the idea emerged of moving a certain intelligentsia to the countryside, statistically more rooted in cities than in remote corners. Finally, the concern for heritage conservation pushed me to look for a building that needed to be restored. When I presented my project to my parents, they told me about a castle for sale for more than ten years near their country house in Yonne. I came straight to visit it and love at first sight was immediate. The Château gathered all the conditions to become the laboratory of the concrete Utopia of which I dreamed." What programs do you offer at the Château? " Thanks to the lockdown, we created Feÿtopia. In winter, from November to April, the castle is transformed into a residential hotel with the aim of experimenting with new, more sustainable and resilient ways of living and working in order to rethink the world of tomorrow. The experience is closely linked to the Embassy of San Francisco. You have to be co-opted to join the group. The audience is cosmopolitan and made up of artists, entrepreneurs, activists, academics and engineers. We close the winter period with Feÿarts, an alternative micro-festival that brings together architects, contemporary artists, music, projection, gastronomy, etc. In total, the work of around a hundred artists is presented each year. The next edition will take place from May 3 to 5, 2024. Then begins the period of events and receptions. We host weddings, seminars etc. This activity sustains an entire local economy (caterers, florists, taxis, artisans, etc.) and has brought in around 2.5 million euros to the region since it opened! Finally, the fourth activity of the Château is Les ami.e.s du Feÿ, a non-profit association that focuses on ecological and heritage issues. We collaborate with the local region through educational and cultural events and projects. We organize trainings on permaculture and self-sufficiency, and are currently working with landscape architect Eric Lenoir with the aim of becoming a Remarkable Garden. All of the Château's activities have enabled us to create twelve full-time jobs." I firmly believe in the future of rurality which, given the difficulties of our time, will lead more and more people to go into exile, to return to live in the middle of nature. Can you describe your neo-rural routine to us? " My routine differs according to the seasons but I try to run through the fields and the forest two to three times a week. I also spend time in the vegetable garden weeding, planting... And another point that one would not imagine in a neo-rural routine, I spend a lot of time meeting people. My life is social here!" What are the advantages and disadvantages of your life in the countryside? " I am now in constant contact with the elements of nature and I am ultra-connected to the outdoors, which is super fulfilling! Also, I eat vegetables from the garden and that's great! I noticed that I manage my schedule very well (better) even though it is very busy. It is totally inconceivable for me to return to live in the city. The only "negative" point of this rural life is the dependence on the car. The Château is located in the countryside and we would be very limited without a vehicle. " What are your favorite places in Yonne that you recommend to Mastic readers? " For Art: La Métairie Bruyère which offers tours and workshops in typical farmhouses of Puisaye. Food side: La Madeleine, an incredible starred restaurant in Sens with a lot of kindness and generosity. For Accommodation: Le Domaine du Roncemay is a hotel-spa located in a park, and golfer's paradise. On the ballad side: Old Joigny with its half-timbered houses from the 16th to the 18th centuries, carved with statues of protective saints or grapes or barrels. Local Products: La Cave de Bailly La Pierre for its Crémant and le Clos de Rochy for its cider and organic apple juice." Which Instagram accounts inspire you? " I love the @villalena which brings together holiday accommodation, an organic farm, a restaurant, a foundation and an art gallery and a decoration shop in the wild Tuscany, the @barnhotel, a country hotel, restaurant and stud farm nestled in the woods of the Chevreuse Valley and @lechateaudelahauteborde a retreat in the heart of the Loire Valley celebrating art and nature I am also the Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center @bmcmuseum and the @wassaicproject, a artist residency, exhibition space and education center located in the hamlet of Wassaic in the state of New York." - HÔTEL DES DUNES
A California-style surf lodge has just re-opened its doors in the oldest hotel in Cap Ferret. Located on the main road, with its feet in the dunes and 300 meters from the beaches, this small boutique hotel reconnects with the surf culture of the peninsula. By taking over the Hôtel des Dunes, the oldest hotel in Cap Ferret, the new owners wanted to give back to the establishment the spirit and the surfing culture that stuck to its history and that of Ferret. To do this, they decided to breathe a Californian touch into this institution by giving it the air of a motel, twisted with a new chic and timeless elegance. The Hotel The project has been entrusted to Delphine Carrère, an interior designer from Biarritz, who will bring to the place an unpretentious freshness comparable to the atmosphere of the old motels of the American coasts. She revamps the traditional architecture of cabins on stilts, typical of the Bassin d'Arcachon, to which she brings the cool Californian touch and the chic of the Hamptons, thus enlivening the small boutique hotel with a bayadere palette of fresh yellows and ocean blues. In total, 11 rooms and 2 suites extended by private terraces or balconies arranged with pine furniture and tiled headboards, and decorated with natural fabrics, vintage objects and photographs by Sports Photographer Sylvain Cazenave... And their bathrooms that smell like pine from the green cosmetics brand Océopin. " L’hôtel des Dunes enjoys an exceptional location with direct access to the ocean. You couldn't dream of a better place to discover Le Cap Ferret. All the addresses that matter on the peninsula are less than 5 minutes by bike." After a locavore breakfast, we weave through the sandy path, between pines and fences protecting the dune, surf under one arm and picnic basket in the other. All you have to do is enjoy the ocean and the elements...
