- THE BUBBLE HOUSE : A MODERN COUNTRY HOUSE
Interior designer Dorothée Meilichzon has carried out the facelift of a historic Bubble House by Jean-Benjamin Maneval, which has become a new family country house in the heart of the Vexin countryside. In 2014, a collector bought at auction an authentic Bulle 6 Coques nomadic house designed by the French architect Jean-Benjamin Maneval in 1968. The originality of the project lies in the ovoid design of a small prefabricated building with an area of 36 m2 made six polyester shells pierced with large Plexiglas openings. At the time of acquisition, the house was an empty shell. The new owner entrusts the artistic direction of the renovation project to the KIF design studio, which calls on Dorothée Meilichzon for the architecture and interior decoration. The concept is simple: the capsule house must become a bubble of comfort and conviviality for 4 people. The interior architecture of Maison Bulle includes all the rooms and functions of a standard home but on a scale model. The rooms are distributed in alcoves which have been optimized to their maximum. Thus, the house includes an entrance hall, a bed, a shower, a toilet, a cloakroom, a kitchen counter, a sofa and a dining area with a table convertible into a coffee table to provide a small living room. The interior design takes up the concept of Maneval and the pop audacity of the 60s, mixing curved shapes and bright colors: a cozy orange carpet, a geometric Edinburgh Weavers fabric, round mosaic tiling, a stainless steel fixture, a Chimera lamp by Vico Magistretti, the Mushroom ottoman by Pierre Paulin and graphic decorative objects. The House retains its original function, intended by Maneval for resort use. Today it offers its occupants a breathtaking view of the nature of Vexin. picture credit © karel balas

- BOOK : A WAY OF LIFE - NOTES ON BALLENBERG
A Way of Life - Notes on Ballenberg is a book of photographs which immerses readers in the rural life of Switzerland in the past and which pays homage to the beauty of architecture and everyday peasant objects. Beyond contemplation, the book invites reflection on the usefulness of simplicity of design and production in our world of overconsumption. Rolf Fehlbaum, former president of the Swiss furniture manufacturer Vitra, invited famous designer Jasper Morrison and architects, David Saik, Tsuyoshi Tane and Federica Zanco to look at everyday objects and rustic buildings dating from the 14th to 19th centuries. The project took place at Ballenberg, an open-air museum which bears witness to daily life in the Swiss rural and artisanal world of yesteryear. The museum has various functional buildings (alpine chalets, barns, stables, laundry rooms, drying rooms, smokehouses or milk cellars) and around a hundred objects, all coming from almost every region of Switzerland. Through the 168 photos and observations of the four creators, the reader is invited to admire and reflect on the functional beauty of rustic craftsmanship, each tool, each object and each building responding to a primary and essential need of a remote population superfluous. A very beautiful book intended for aesthetes and countryside lovers. - FRENCH TOUCH : LE NÉGUS DE NEVERS
We are opening a new Fooding section with the presentation of legendary dishes or products that are part of the French or global gastronomic heritage. We start gently with a treat, Le Négus, created in Nevers during the Belle-Epoque. Maison Grelier & Lyron, a candy maker established in Nevers (Burgundy) in 1893, had a tradition of creating a new candy each end of the year to which it gave the name of a significant event that took place during the past year. In 1900, the official visit to France of the Emperor of Abyssinia Menelik II, nicknamed the Negus, on the occasion of the Universal Exhibition, inspired the artisan confectioners who created a soft chocolate caramel coated in cooked sugar, and whose brown color referred to the matte complexion of the sovereign. There is also a coffee version which bears the name Abyssin. Maison Grelier & Lyron was bought by one of its workers in 1909 who renamed the confectionery La Maison Au Négus. Four generations succeeded one another and the House was bought in 2013 by the Ménard group, owner of the famous brand À La Mère de Famille. More than a century after its creation, the buyers strive to perpetuate the tradition and still make the little candy by hand in their workshops. This little national treasure is exported as far as Japan. You can get the small green metal boxes in the remarkable original boutique with its neo-Moorish inspired decor, on La Mère de Famille e-shop or in their Parisian boutiques. The Négus is also distributed exclusively at Témoins in Caen, Au Duc de Morny in Deauville, Maison Pillon in Toulouse, Henriet on the Basque coast, Auzou in Normandy, Buissière in Limoges, Les Palets d'Or in Moulins and La Chocolatière in Tours. - Exhibition : ANNA BOCH, UN VOYAGE IMPRESSIONISTE
The exhibition Anna Boch, un voyage impressionniste paints a multifaceted portrait of the Belgian artist Anna Boch, a free and avant-garde woman of her time. A rich personality to discover at the Pont-Aven Museum from February 3 to May 26, 2024. The Pont-Aven Museum in Brittany, in partnership with the Mu.ZEE of Ostend in Belgium, pays tribute to Anna Boch (1848 - 1936), a major female figure in Belgian art from the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. Impressionist painter, music lover, collector, patron, traveler and architecture enthusiast, Anna Boch stands out with her wealth, dynamism and open-mindedness. Older sister of Eugène Boch, and heiress to the Boch earthenware factories, Anna Boch was able to lead a free and vibrant life thanks to her social origins and family benevolence. The only woman to have joined the artistic circles Les XX and La Libre Esthétique, founded by her cousin Octave Maus, she positioned herself there as an equal with her peers. Together, they embarked on the adventure of neo-impressionism, then embodied by Théo van Rysselberghe, Paul Signac and Georges Seurat. 1 - Vincent Van Gogh - Eugène Boch 1888, Huile sur toile - Legs Eugène Boch par l’intermédiaire de la Société des Amis du Musée du Louvre, 1941, musée d’Orsay © RMN-Grand Palais (Musée d’Orsay) / Hervé LewandowskI 2 - Anna Boch, Femme écrivant, vers 1888 Huile sur toile104 x 83 cm Collection particulière © Art-Photo/PHIA cv Her passion for nature took her to remote corners, dreaming of living in a cabin, to capture the beauty of bucolic landscapes. A lover of seascapes, she captured the light and reflections of the Brittany coasts in particular, to integrate them into vibrant artistic compositions. Apart from her own works, Anna Boch had one of the most important collections of impressionist paintings of her time. She promoted young artists, including Vincent van Gogh, whom she admired for his talent and who was a friend of her brother Eugène Boch. She bought La Vigne Rouge from him for 400 French francs, the only work that Van Gogh managed to sell during his life! The Pont-Aven Museum has been engaged for several years in a process of promoting the place of women in the history of art. This exhibition on Anna Boch is part of their reflection on the place of women in art.
