The iconic Café de l'Ormeau in Ramatuelle had a makeover. After decades spent within the same family, the Saint-Tropez trio from Indie Group is taking up the torch by keeping the promise of preserving all the soul of the place. They keep the decorum of yesteryear and serve an authentic menu. The charm endures and will continue to welcome everyone who comes to taste the simple pleasures of the true Provençal art de vivre.
Since the 1940s, generations have succeeded each other at the Café de l'Ormeau without the soul and charm of the place ever being altered. Symbol of the village of Ramatuelle and of the Provençal Lifestyle, everyone liked to take advantage of the address; visiting celebrities or family reunions, the bistro welcomed everyone in a simple and friendly typically southern atmosphere.
Like a dream come true, the essential Var trio from Indie Group has just taken over the reins of this mythical café where they were already sipping grenadines as children. There is therefore no question of distorting this place filled with memories. Accompanied by the Saint-Tropez architect David Granata, they wanted to enhance the place and immerse their customers in the golden age of Provençal popular culture.
The bet is successful! The decor instantly plunges us into the atmosphere of a retro café. The notable original elements such as the carved walnut bar, the cement tiles, the suspensions and the shaded arbor have been preserved and refreshed. Antique mirrors, upholstered leather benches, traditional furniture and crockery have been carefully selected and the whole is adorned with a harmonious palette of creams and old greens enhanced with brass.
On the menu, the essentials of Provencal bistronomy: anchoïade, pan bagnat, Provencal tomatoes linguine with bottarga, fettuccine with crab meat as well as the classics of French brasseries such as egg mayo, leeks vinaigrette or frogs' thighs in parsley.
Vincent, Raphaël and Tobias enchant us by offering us a beautiful journey back in time when life was easy. They brilliantly revive an era imbued with nostalgia. For little, we could almost see Raimu, Fernandel and Pagnol playing cards while sipping a Pastis next to us...
