- BEL ESTIU
In the heart of the Périgord Noir, Bel Estiu brings together all the assets to taste the pleasures of rural life in an authentic and friendly setting. In an old 18th century farmhouse carefully restored by Emilie and Marie, the guest house is an invitation to disconnect and enjoy the sweetness of life for a night or a week. It promises peaceful and happy moments, alone or in a tribe, in which we like to linger to share simple pleasures and recharge our batteries between two walks and historical visits. Emilie and Marie had the idea of creating a cocoon a few kilometers from the medieval town of Sarlat where their guests could take full advantage of the gentle Occitan way of life. In 2014, they left Paris for the Dordogne where they will transform this farmhouse into a little bucolic paradise. After a year of work, three guest rooms opened in the barn designed as a holiday home. A generous place with a soul that gives everyone the feeling of being in their own country house. Whether you stay in a single room or take advantage of the whole house, the Bel Estiu offers a feeling of comfort and fullness where you share simple pleasures: preparing the meal back from the market, chilling in the living room between games and readings on local prehistory, study the next day's tourist program, swing gently in the hammock under century-old trees, do lengths in the swimming corridor bordered by wheat fields or enjoy a barbecue under the stars. "It is a place with a soul, an 18th century farmhouse with its lauze roofs and its ocher stones typical of the Périgord Noir, in which I invite you in all simplicity to discover the Dordogne." Émilie The atmosphere of the house is simple, natural and friendly, just like its owners. Emilie and Marie wanted to preserve the history of the place by keeping authentic materials such as old floor tiles, wooden mangers and oak floors. The decor is complemented by furniture mottled here and there, dressed in linen and cotton fabrics, and tinted with a palette of calm colors echoing the surrounding nature, available in pretty shades of almond greens, ochres and brown. We cross the wooded garden and stroll through the nooks and crannies of buildings with dry stone facades and slate roofs, to reach the swimming lane installed in the middle of an idyllic landscape for nature lovers. Our favorite goes to the old adjoining chicken coop, which has rightly become the "hen-house"! From June 2022, the adventure continues at the end of the road, with the opening of a 4 people guest house which has just undergone a beautiful renovation like the rest of the house. Whatever formula you choose, Bel Estiu lives up to its name and keeps the promise of offering its guests a great summer. - TSINGPU TULOU RETREAT
In the Fujian region of southeastern China, the Trace Architecture Office firm has created a luxurious retreat where tradition and modernity blend in perfect harmony. In the middle of mountains of pines and bamboos, the hotel plunges us into a historical Chinese aesthetic worthy of the film Raise the Red Lantern while offering a contemporary luxury service. A decorative concept that applies yin and yang as a whole. The Fujian region, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a well-kept secret. Its geological, architectural and cultural heritage amaze lovers of nature and authenticity. It is in this landscape of steep mountains and lush vegetation that the investor Wang Gongquan asked Trace Architecture Office to design in the village of Taxia, a luxury retreat based on the foundations of a set of buildings traditional Tulous dating in part from the Qing dynasty. These constructions typical of the Hakka people inhabiting the region constitute an exceptional model of architecture of which no less than forty-six sites are listed as World Heritage Sites. The Tulous, residences of the community type, were distinguished by their square or circular plan as well as by their large central mineral courtyard, a place of life shared by the occupants before joining their respective dwellings on the floors built of wood. « The Tulous are examples of exceptional buildings in terms of their construction tradition and their function. They constitute a unique model of human settlement, based on community life and defensive needs while maintaining a harmonious relationship with their environment. ». The restoration project scrupulously respects the architectural characteristics of Les Tulous. The new complex consists of three two-storey residential buildings, another smaller building and annexes covering a total of 3700 m2. The spaces have retained their former functions and are now gathered in a single structure characterized by the common areas on the ground floor and the bedrooms upstairs. The hotel focuses on the outdoor courtyard bordered by the river that crosses the hotel, and whose pebble and stone floors trace paths and define relaxation areas specific to Zen culture. This large courtyard gives access to the original three main buildings via ornate portals leading to the individual courtyards. The annex building was completely rebuilt and transformed into an open gallery separated from the courtyard by folding shutters. The wish of the owner and the architects was to preserve the exceptional character of the building and to restore its splendor while providing it with modern functionality and comfort. Thus, the whole building is dressed in natural materials faithful to the original elements: natural stones, pebbles, terracotta, tiles and especially the ubiquitous wood used among other things for the construction of balconies, windows and shutters. . Some characteristic details of the Tulous have been reproduced where they had disappeared, notably the finely carved eaves decorations in the beams and columns. Also an architectural singularity signs the originality of the decoration; some interior and exterior walls are made up of a superposition of small curved tiles laid flat giving a unique lace effect. A superb architectural rendering which, without contrasting with the rest of the decor, underlines the quality and value of the project. The refined and refined atmosphere of the Tsingpu Tulou Retreat invites us to reconsider the definition of luxury in an era where glitz prevails. Here, splendor is synonymous with respect for nature and traditions, and the decorative concept as well as its quality of execution lead to this reflection. The hotel perfectly illustrates the possibility of reconciling heritage and contemporary creation with its refined interior decoration which perfectly matches its more refined ancestral architecture. The modern lines of the tapered trellises and handcrafted furniture embrace the old structure, and the natural and vegetal hues inspired by the nearby forest dress the hotel in shades of wood enhanced with green. A Zen atmosphere conducive to contemplation inscribed in a soft setting. "The refined and refined atmosphere of the Tsingpu Tulou invites us to reconsider the definition of luxury in an era where glitz prevails. Here, splendor is synonymous with respect for nature and traditions, and the decorative concept encourages this reflection.." The restaurant is no exception to the concept of the hotel and offers authentic or revisited traditional Hakka cuisine. The tables open onto the outdoor spaces and the mountain, thus offering customers an additional sensory experience. Of course, tea is an integral part of the taste experience and even invites you to practice its ceremony.. The activities offered at Ginspu Tulou Retreat celebrate the Hakka region and culture. They praise simplicity and urge grounding and introspection. The historical context of the place is conducive to discovering the ancient secrets of Fengshui design, to learning about painting on wood or pottery workshops. Also, the unspoiled nature of the region invites you to hike in the mountains, to walk in the bamboo groves and to discover the neighboring villages. As a retreat, calm and relaxation are privileged here. In my bag Our "must-have" selection for a stay at Tsingpu Tulou Retreat. - LE CAFE DE L'ORMEAU
The iconic Café de l'Ormeau in Ramatuelle had a makeover. After decades spent within the same family, the Saint-Tropez trio from Indie Group is taking up the torch by keeping the promise of preserving all the soul of the place. They keep the decorum of yesteryear and serve an authentic menu. The charm endures and will continue to welcome everyone who comes to taste the simple pleasures of the true Provençal art de vivre. Since the 1940s, generations have succeeded each other at the Café de l'Ormeau without the soul and charm of the place ever being altered. Symbol of the village of Ramatuelle and of the Provençal Lifestyle, everyone liked to take advantage of the address; visiting celebrities or family reunions, the bistro welcomed everyone in a simple and friendly typically southern atmosphere. Like a dream come true, the essential Var trio from Indie Group has just taken over the reins of this mythical café where they were already sipping grenadines as children. There is therefore no question of distorting this place filled with memories. Accompanied by the Saint-Tropez architect David Granata, they wanted to enhance the place and immerse their customers in the golden age of Provençal popular culture. The bet is successful! The decor instantly plunges us into the atmosphere of a retro café. The notable original elements such as the carved walnut bar, the cement tiles, the suspensions and the shaded arbor have been preserved and refreshed. Antique mirrors, upholstered leather benches, traditional furniture and crockery have been carefully selected and the whole is adorned with a harmonious palette of creams and old greens enhanced with brass. On the menu, the essentials of Provencal bistronomy: anchoïade, pan bagnat, Provencal tomatoes linguine with bottarga, fettuccine with crab meat as well as the classics of French brasseries such as egg mayo, leeks vinaigrette or frogs' thighs in parsley. Vincent, Raphaël and Tobias enchant us by offering us a beautiful journey back in time when life was easy. They brilliantly revive an era imbued with nostalgia. For little, we could almost see Raimu, Fernandel and Pagnol playing cards while sipping a Pastis next to us... - LA MAISON PIEUSE
Marie and Mickaël put their hearts to work to renovate two village houses in their native Puisaye. Two lodgings with a deliberately grandmotherly spirit filled with knick-knacks reminiscent of the neighboring church whose ringing of bells punctuates the day. A bucolic atmosphere tinged with nostalgia where to escape with family or in a group for a weekend and more... In the charming village of Villiers-Saint-Benoît, in the middle of Puisaye country, a region of forests, ponds and small winding roads in northern Burgundy, Marie and Mickaël have just opened two gites after eighteen months of works. A resolutely rustic atmosphere instilled by its interior designer owner, who wanted to offer her guests modern comfort while highlighting the history of the place and the local architectural heritage. The two buildings are located opposite the Saint-Benoît church, the inspiration for the name and the decorative spirit of the place. The houses are built around a common garden which offers the possibility of renting the premises separately or jointly. In total, the Maison Pieux can accommodate fifteen guests. The largest house, adorned with a subtle palette of greens, oranges and yellows, offers five bedrooms and two bathrooms that can accommodate up to ten people who will enjoy the flamboyant fitted kitchen, the large dining room to eat, and can even indulge in billiards in the library. The second house, more intimate in its shades of beige, includes two double bedrooms sharing a pretty bathroom. " I wanted us to feel here like at our Grandmother's house!" Marie Ducornet Authentic and durable materials have been used in the renovation of the houses: the terracotta floor tiles and cabochons come from the nearby Courboissy factory, the exposed beams are highlighted by the whitewashed walls and the fireplaces are balanced in a mixture of brick, stone and wood. A neat finish in neutral colors whose ecru linen curtains diffuse a diaphanous light, enhanced here and there by wallpapers and floral fabrics. To perfect this neo-country atmosphere, all the furniture and decorative objects were found in nearby flea markets or found on the boncoin. The region is the starting point for many nature, cultural and gastronomic walks. Native land of Colette and country of Guédelon, an unspoiled natural setting sheltering many places of memory, Puisaye offers many surprises to discover... La Maison Pieuse and its country celebrate simple pleasures and offer the promise of an exotic and relaxing stay. - RAUS
In German, Raus means Outside. A concise and evocative name for the new Raus hotel group, which offers its guests ultra-stylish eco-cabins, carefully located in the German countryside. The opportunity to escape the stress of Berlin or Hamburg and fully immerse yourself in nature for a weekend or more. Since October 2021, Raus has been offering a hotel service in small ecological cabins skilfully integrated into the German countryside. In collaboration with designers and architects, hotel experts and engineers, the Berlin start-up has created small eco-designed and autonomous chalets, designed to immerse its occupants as much as possible in nature. The desire of the founders was to create small accommodations that blend in with the landscape while providing space and comfort to its guests. The result is small fully fitted areas with high ceilings and large windows and sliding glass doors offering a panoramic view of the forest, the lake or the neighboring field. "With Raus, we create contemporary retreats in the middle of nature, where there is nothing to do and where nothing is lacking." Julian Trautwein, Founder and Managing Director of Raus The Raus cabins are perfectly equipped with comfortable bedding and quality linens, a shower room with Dr. Bronner's cosmetics, a fully equipped kitchen, a wood stove and even a small office with wi-fi if desired. 'we have to (tele)work. The finishes are in light wood or blackened wood according to the concept of the Danish architect Sigund Larsen. The cabins operate autonomously using water tanks and solar panels. For the moment, a dozen cabins located a few hours from Berlin, Hamburg, Dresden and Leipzig are open for booking, but in view of the growing success they are meeting, the managers of Raus plan to open until forty huts in Germany and beyond. Maybe in France... raus.life pictures credit - raus © noel richter
- HOTEL LA TARTANE
After several months of work, the hotel La Tartane has just reopened its doors. A five-star resort built in the shape of a small Provencal hamlet housing the rooms. Notoire agency is in charge of the transformation of this Saint-Tropez hotel which pays homage to the glorious times of the french Riviera, when creativity and refinement had reached their peak. On the road Les Salins, La Tartane hotel complex takes shape through the branches of its green park. The large maritime pine welcomes visitors seeking peace and well-being in this haven of greenery hosting six small houses in which the twenty-seven rooms and suites are hidden. Jordane Arrivetz, of Notoire agency, designed the place in homage to the golden age of the Riviera, when aristocrats and artists came to taste the benefits of the climate and enjoy an idyllic setting. The time when Cocteau drew his frescoes, Matisse cut out his collages, Le Corbusier took refuge in his shed and Gabriel Chanel decorated his villa. The result is an intimate and refined atmosphere with subtle evocations of the past and the Mediterranean, plunging the visitor into a worldly and artistic imagination: the furniture mixes objects found by Julie Barrau and custom-made creations, the furnishing fabrics are dressed in retro trimmings made of white piping and ruffled fringe, and the hotel is designed with a palette of sunny and natural colors in a variation of greens enhanced here and there with coral hues and flamboyant yellows. « Notoire agency pays tribute to the Côte d'Azur, which has inspired so many artists since the 1920s. » The open-air restaurant sets up its tables in the extension of the Hollywood-style swimming pool. Long daybeds festooned with white and their fringed parasols border the pool in which you can enjoy a lemonade or a freshly squeezed orangeade with citrus fruits from the garden, or a fresh and seasonal dish from the restaurant menu. - LE DOYENNE
A new "farm to table" inn has just opened in the historic Château de Saint-Vrain estate in Essonne. Chefs James Henry and Shaun Kelly have teamed up with the Mortemart family, owners of the place, to offer their guests a magnificent bubble of greenery a few kilometers from Paris. From the architecture to the plate, Le Doyenné celebrates tradition and craftsmanship. Owned by the Mortemart family for two centuries, the Château de Saint-Vrain has always welcomed prestigious guests within its walls. Country house of the Comtesse du Barry then of the Borghese family, workshop of Nikki de Saint-Phalle and Tinguely, the places adapt to their time and today offer a vegetable farm, a restaurant with forty seats and eleven guest rooms. Australian chefs James Henry and Shaun Kelly have joined forces with the owners to transform the outbuildings of the estate and realize their dream of an agricultural, gastronomic and hotel project. The Place The entire project revolves around a sustainable environmental approach: favoring short circuits, limiting consumption and respecting the local architectural heritage. The renovation of buildings is no exception to this principle. The architecture of the building was entrusted to the Cigüe and 1024 agencies, while the interiors were entirely designed by the Doyenné team, which called on the know-how of local craftsmen. The exposed framework has been completely restored, the old materials reused, all the antique furniture and the new equipment meet environmental standards. The rustic style and the contemporary volumes come together in perfect balance and result in an elegant and intimate atmosphere. The Restaurant The dining room offers a panoramic view of the vegetable garden, the heart of the project. The large bay windows allow you to eat while contemplating the vegetable crops, the young fruit trees and the alleys of flowers blooming to the rhythm of the seasons. The menus are elaborated each day according to the morning harvest, and embellished with fresh products sourced as closely and as accurately as possible; meat, dairy products and wines come from suppliers who share the same agricultural ideals as the Doyenné. And for the sake of transparency and conviviality, you can also admire the chefs at work via the large kitchen open to the dining room. "The garden is the soul of our kitchen. Our approach to gastronomy closely links cuisine and nature, reflects the terroir of origin and respect for the rhythm of the seasons.." The Farm James Henry and Shaun Kelly have brought the castle's historic vegetable garden back to life by applying the principles of regenerative agriculture, which helped restore the fertility of its soil after half a century of inactivity. Since 2017, they lovingly cultivate a hundred old varieties of vegetables, herbs and fruit trees. Throughout the duration of the work, they even supplied major restaurants in the capital. The chefs' approach aims to produce high-tasting and nutritious food with a low carbon footprint, and to leave a rich land behind. They join a new generation of chefs keen to participate in a new economic and societal model. - DOMAINE LAUDONIE
A few kilometers from the Lascaux caves, Belgian restorers have breathed new life into an age-old estate. Six years of colossal work were necessary to create this exceptional place with charm and authentic decoration. A place dedicated to comfort and calm where you can fully enjoy your holidays or celebrate an unforgettable ceremony. Who could imagine that this remarkable place was once an austere farmhouse dating from the 15th century, with small openings and devoid of the towers and the inner courtyard? Today, after six years of transformation work, the Laudonie estate stands proudly on the crest of its hill and its 53-hectare park, while the ocher stones and terracotta of its buildings stand out distinctly against the blue sky. A two-hour drive from Bordeaux, in the heart of historic Périgord, the Manoir and its outbuildings are open for rental and receptions. The guest house equipped with a swimming pool, a tennis court and a sauna offers a hotel service with a concierge service run by Marie and Ioan who are happy to welcome, advise and bring the hot croissants to guests in the morning... Four buildings can be rented jointly or separately. Le Manoir, the main building of 600m2, ideally accommodates families or groups of friends of up to twelve people who benefit from a large, convivial kitchen and vast lounges opening onto the terraced garden overlooking the valley. An ideal view where to drink a coffee, laze or enjoy the sunset. The North, East and West Towers, which have a double bedroom each, are more suitable for couples. They are equipped with a kitchen, a living room with a fireplace and a private terrace. The South Tower, ideal for young people looking for autonomy, complements the other buildings. Finally, the Barn is dedicated to receptions and hosts private ceremonies, wellness retreats or seminars. It has a professional kitchen ideal for catering ceremonies. All of the 900 square meters have been entirely designed and remodeled by the Belgian architect Stéphane Boens. All of the buildings have been completely stripped bare, leaving only the structural walls and chimneys exposed. The towers and the inner courtyard were created from scratch. The owners wanted to offer a very comfortable interior to their future guests, obliging these major architectural and interior reconfiguration works. From floors to roofs, the new structure has been clad in noble and authentic materials. Fanny the owner and Stéphane Boens have called on resellers of old building materials such as Joris Van Apers in Antwerp or Marike Vandemoortel in Zarren: stones, floor tiles, fireplace mantels, railings or the outdoor fountain are all recycled materials from old buildings. The parquet floors have been recreated to ensure perfect sound insulation. The four kitchens and the bathrooms were made to measure by a renowned Belgian fitter and all the curtains were made by a local upholsterer. "The estate is nestled on a ridge offering a breathtaking view of the surrounding valleys and hills." Throughout the duration of the work, Fanny had the opportunity to scour all the antique dealers and second-hand goods dealers in the region, to hunt in Belgium or abroad during her travels. A treasure made up of furniture, lighting, decorative objects and paintings accumulated over the years, today furnishes all the buildings, distributed in each room according to the wise advice of Stéphane Boens. Laudonie also offers top-of-the-range equipment, linen customized with the effigy of the domain and sustainable care products from Ada Cosmetics. The entire decorative concept is deliberately bare, thus highlighting the quality of the work and respecting the relaxing atmosphere desired by its owners. If Laudonie is an admirable place, it is the same for its environment. The house is ideally located in a very rich region. It is the starting point for many cultural excursions, walks or sports activities. Located in the heart of the Périgord Noir and its famous prehistoric sites, the Caves of Lascaux and the National Museum of Prehistory are only a few kilometers from the property. The region is also ideal for discovering exceptional villages and remarkable gardens, including the famous Jardins d'Eyrignac. Sports and nature lovers can indulge in golf or kayaking, while all seasons are conducive to beautiful hiking loops offering exceptional viewpoints. - MY TINY ESTATE
Dean and Borja have been renovating My Tiny Estate since 2019, their estate in the English countryside, consisting of an 18th century mansion and its outbuildings. They now welcome their guests in two perfectly refurbished cottages. A country dream, cosy, which immerses its visitors in the Victorian era. In the charming village of Coleshill in the county of Birmingham, in the middle of England, Dean the English and Borja the Spanish, have recently opened two lodgings in the outbuildings of their 18th century manor house, and former municipal library. In total, The Tiny Estate is made up of five buildings bordering an English garden and a 2.5 acres park. A typically British atmosphere where you can spend an exotic stay. The other buildings are still being renovated and will soon be open for rent. The former caretaker's cottage and the servants living quarter are now open for booking; two cottages adjoining the manor, once rustic, which the owners have sublimated. Dean and Borja were keen to preserve and enhance all the period character elements such as parquet floors or wallpaper dating from 1910 which they had reproduced. The cottages now offer all the necessary comfort and there emerges a resolutely cozy atmosphere that mixes shaker and contemporary notes, and where you want to enjoy a chimney fire while drinking your tea or reading a novel by Charlotte Brontë, curled up in the large linen sofas after a walk in the estate's gardens. The houses perfectly reflect the old art of living in the English countryside in a contemporary version. Sand & Suchi floral wallpapers, Morris & Co fabrics, paneling and woodwork painted in Fenwick & Tilbrook hues, Yester Home hardware, mottled furniture, white porcelain and old paintings match modern amenities, such as the gym common to all guests.
